    Anybody can do this!!

Golf Tips 0067   Golf Tips 0066

Pictured above is Emily Klein and I filmed her at my driving range in Key Largo one week before she won an LPGA Tour event.  She came in months earlier like most players that have trouble with there game working on completely wrong information and boy did she get it into her swing.  Emily was trying to turn and get her arms as long as possible.  She was being taught the arms should move away from the body for extension, which is a horrible thing to try and do in any sporting activity.  And about trying to turn well a few years ago the Swedish national coach came over here for lessons and was sure in the fact that all golfers must turn in the golf swing.  He was told to talk to an engineer or any one that understands physics when he gets back to Sweden and ask them can you turn from two sockets and two joints (legs and hips) or do you have to shift to the right leg and hip with the upper body.  About a month later he sent the picture above with the wine bottles back with a caption that read “CAN YOU TURN?!!”  As far as the arms go, you must get them soft and laying in front of you.  The shoulders and body moves the arms in ALL athletic motions.  She worked hard on the correct information and started getting it together.  You will notice in the pictures above that her arms are soft and her body moves the arms into the set of the right leg in the third picture above right.  Now in the impact picture her arms are straight “ONLY BECAUSE OF THE CENTRIFUGAL FORCES IN THE GOLF SWING” and the very next picture halfway past impact is the money shot.  This position is EVERYTHING good or bad in the swing.  Notice how you cannot see her left arm below the elbow and how long her right side is.  This is TRUE extension because her left arm has hinged at the elbow and her right side is driving to the target hard.  This is exactly where Ben Hogan got when he learned the correct information from Sam Byrd and Jack Nicklaus was because of the information he got from Jack Grout.  And by the way Sam Byrd and Jack Grout were great friends they taught the same way.  Tiger Woods is here every time now, in other words every great ball striker is exactly here when playing well it is the HISTORY of the game and I prove it EVERY DAY!! Learn how to put this in your game and you too can become a fine golfer.

Keep the golf swing simple, because it is!!

If a Teacher can not explain the golf swing in one hour that Teacher has much more to learn.  We spend a short time learning the fundamentals of the swing and a lifetime chasing the perfection of them.  Yes we need guidance from time to time but the true Mastery of the swing comes from enjoying the journey in practice and play.

If you are taking lessons and not getting on video for most of your sessions from beginner to tour player how in the world are you going to learn what to do in the golf swing?  I have been lucky to have taught some of the best players and teachers in the game and if they have no idea what there doing in the golf swing (what the video shows and what they say there doing is always different) how can the rest of us have a chance without video and good sound advice?  A Teacher MUST show you great players when they are playing well and when they are playing poorly and easily show you why and explain the differences.  Once you know how simple the golf swing really is you can be your own teacher and help correct yourself when things go wrong.  Yes we do need guidance from time to time but you can not run to a teacher every time you hit a bad shot, you must know why you hit it that way and how to quickly correct it.  This is where every student of mine gets if they stick with the simple fundamentals that I have shown them.  I have literally had students that come in just to show off there new found ball striking ability and let me tell you this is sure a fun lesson.  Instructors that do not use video or if your not getting better and they are, need help.  Let’s talk about two examples of how easy or hard the swing can be. Angel Cabrera this years U. S. Open champion had two of the only eight rounds under par from the entire field in the tournament.  He has probably had ten lessons his entire life, just a natural athlete that keeps the swing simple because it is!  He shifts into his braced right leg with both elbows pointing down to the ground and then goes to the target with both elbows pointing down at the finish.  Do you really think he try’s to do anything but hit his ball to a target?  He is EXACTLY where Nicklaus, Hogan, Snead, Sorenstam, Palmer, Player and all greats are when playing well and I prove it every day.  Michelle Wie used to be there as well when she first came out.  She had one of the best swings I have ever seen.  Now look at her, she can’t keep the ball in the fairway because she is working on things that nobody should her arms are going one way the body the other and it is a shame because she seems to be such a nice gal.  She could easily be fixed in one afternoon given the proper information, so there is hope for her.  And the video camera does not have to be the latest marvel, it can be an old VHS you bought at a garage sale for twenty bucks!!  But YOU need to see what your doing.

The best Rain Gear, inexpensive vs costly

RAIN GEAR IS A MUST FOR GOLFERS IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST If you want to play around here this time of year rain gear is a must. And if you want it to last for more then a season paying for the best is well worth it. You really do get what you pay for in this category. Now if you want something extremely cheap and still 100 percent waterproof look at getting the frogg toggs brand of rain gear www.froggtoggs.com is there site address. They were founded in 1996 originally for hunting and fishing and they are very inexpensive for what you get. The only problem is they will not last very long with heavy use. But if you are like me and really only need to use them once in a while because you don’t like playing in the bad weather this is a good option. If you are a hearty golfer and will play rain or shine no matter what, you might want to get the best ever made. This is a brand called Zero Restriction www.zerorestriction.com is there web site. Zero Restriction is still number one on all of the golf Tours and has been for a long time. Even Tour players have to shell out some money to get a hold of this gear. And you will too, this is not cheap but it will last the rest of your life. I bought the Travelers Jacket and pants what I like about these is that the jacket can be turned into a vest or half sleeve quickly and easily while the pants can be turned into Bermuda length shorts as well. Both of these company’s make rain gear with out lining which I think is the way to go. If you get a suit with any kind of lining it will just tend to make you sweat too much, playing in the cold and rain you will have enough layers or clothes on before even putting on the rain suit. The last thing you want to do is feel and look like the Michelin Man out there you won’t have much of a chance of playing well. Now the last thing is get yourself a bucket hat that is 100 percent water proof, this will keep the rain from getting down the back of your neck and literally feel like your wearing an umbrella. Now get out there and play some golf, if you need any help do not hesitate to come in for a lesson any time. Keep it Simple, Steve.
